Sabudana Khichdi


Sabudana is mainly used during the time fasting in our part. This is not cooked only mixed with fruits like banana, mango, milk and sugar. Though I like the sweet version but want to try a spicy way too. So came up with this Sabudana khichdi. It’s very delicious healthy you can add on as many vegetables as you like. It can be a very yummy breakfast for anyone. Enjoy Sabudana khichdi.


Preparation time:  4 to 5 hours
Cooking time : 10 to 15 minutes
Serves:  4

Ingredients: 
2 cup large sabudana / sago/ tropica pearls
1 green bell pepper cubes
1 tomato cubes
½ cup small coconut pieces
¼ cup peanut 
½ tsp whole mustard 
1 whole red chilly
1 green chilly finely sliced
a pinch of turmeric powder
¼ tsp rasam powder(optional)
2 tsp lemon juice (optional)
¼ tsp sugar ( optional)
1 tbsp oil
1 tsp ghee
a pinch of garam masala
10 to 12 fresh  curry leaves
1/2 cup little less 
salt  to taste


Methods of Cooking 
Soak the sabudana with enough water overnight or at least 4 to 5 hours. The sago will absorb enough water and will enlarge in size next morning. Drain rest milky white water. Heat oil in a pan now add the mustard seed and whole red chilly. When mustard start to crackle then add coconut pieces and peanuts and curry leaves. Fry them then add the capsicum and tomato . fry till the tomato and capsicum little soft. Now add the sago. Add salt, sugar, turmeric powder, rasam powder. Mix well. Add water . Cook for 3 minutes. Add ghee and garam masala. Mix well. Put off the flame add lemon juice. Serve hot.
