Butter Onion Masala Dosa


Dosa is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils. It is a staple dish in South Indian states . Dosa, a common breakfast dish and street food, is high in carbohydrates, and contains no sugar or saturated fats. As its constituent ingredients are rice and urad dal, it is also a source of protein.The fermentation process increases the vitamin B and vitamin C content. Masala dosa was listed as one of the World's 50 most delicious foods compiled by CNN. Today I am sharing with you a very delicious butter onion masala dosa. I am sure once you try you will love it.


Preparation time :  20 minutes
Cooking time : 10 to 15 minutes
Serves :  2 to 3  

Ingredients : 
 1 cup instant dosa mix / 1 cup dosa batter
1 tbsp  butter 
1 onion chopped 
2 green chilly chopped
For stuffing
2  boiled potato 
¼ tsp mustard seed 
6 to 10 curry leaves   
1 tomato chopped 
1 onion chopped 
handfull  of cashew 
¼ tsp turmeric powder 
¼ tsp red  chilly powder or to taste
1 tbsp of oil 
salt to taste 

Methods Of Cooking :
If you are using instant dosa mix then soak it as per package instruction for 10 to 12 minutes. I use 1 tbsp of rice flour with each 1 cup instant dosa mix to bring the extra crunch. You can add or skip all upto you. If you are using fermented home made dosa mix then it's absolute wonder as it's far more healthy. Heat oil in a pan then add mustard seed and curry leaves. When seed star to crack then add cashew, fry a little then add tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chilly powder. Stir and the add mashed potato. Add salt and mix well. In a small bowl take 1 tsp hot melted butter add onion and chopped green chilly. Mix well and keep aside. Now heat a nonstick dosa tawa. Once hot, spread some melted butter then wipe that off with a piece of wet cloth. Now add ladle full of batter and spread that. Switch the flame high and once it’s slightly cooked spread the onion green chilly butter mixture evenly. Then cook for a minute.Place the masala potato mixture in the middle, cook for another minute then fold it from two side. Place it on a plate . Relish it with onion sambar, coconut chutney and gun podwer/ karam powder with dash of melted butter. I am sure you will love this yummy butter onion masala dosa.
