Instant Idli Dhokla


Dhokla is a vegetarian food item that originates from the Indian state of Gujarat. It is made with a fermented batter derived from rice and split chickpeas. Dhokla can be eaten for breakfast, as a main course, as a side dish, or as a snack. Today I use dhokla made in idli mould with instant dhokla mix.


Preparation time :  10 minutes 
Cooking time : 15 minutes
Serves : 3 to 4 

Ingredients : 
1 cup instant Dhokla mix (I use MTR mix )
½  cup water 
4 tbsp cooking oil 
1 /2  tsp ginger green chilly paste 
1 tsp lemon juice 
1 tsp fruit salt 
2 pinch of salt 
1 pinch asafetida 

For  sugar syrup  
2 tbsp sugar 
8  tbsp water 

For Tempering  
1 tsp oil 
1 green chilly chopped 
¼  tsp hing/ asafetida 
10 to 12 curry leaves (optional)


For garnishing  
3 tbsp grated coconut

Methods of Cooking :
 In a bowl take a instant dhokla mix, water, ginger green chilly paste , lemon juice, salt , asefitida , oil. Mix well. Take Idli mould grease it with oil. Then add fruit salt with the dhokla mixture. Now with a ladle put the dhokla mixture in the mould . Steam the dhoklas for 15 minutes in high flame. In the mean time make light sugar syrup boiling the sugar and water. In a small pan heat oil add chopped green chilly fry and then add hing. Put off the flame. In a serving plate arrange the dhoklas . Sprinkle sugar syrup above the dhokla and then top the dhoklas with the tempering and garnish with grated coconut.
